My concept of photography has been shaped by very creative and well known photographers like Vincent Versace, Jay Maisel and Gerg Gorman and one fine gentleman ,whose name I can not recall, at Fort Bliss, Texas.
In the digital age we should remember that snapshots and photographs are not the same. Though both can produce pleasing outcomes one relies on luck and perhaps a bit of an eye. The other depends on training, a developed sense of art, study and careful preparation
A "snapshot" can be taken of anything and of varying quality (composition, exposure, etc.) Usually a "snapshot" is a quick rough capture to document a scene or event.
A "photograph" on the other hand is a well thought, composed, exposed and executed art form.
My studio and landscape photography is art. My event and wildlife photography is art though I'm not always in control of the lighting and action. I plan ahead for my shots and factor in the elements that I can control.
